New LED LCD TV
« on: Nov. 14, 2010, 01:07:05 PM »
So after thanksgiving I will be getting a new LED LCD TV.  Thought I would ask for any input/advice here first.

Anyone have any warnings, thoughts, or things that I must look at with TVs?  I must admit that I don't know a whole lot about TVs so anything is welcomed.  Maybe you know if a brand that is crap or a company that has great or bad customer service...  or maybe you bought something yourself that you love.

So far I am looking at an edge lit LED 46/47 inch unit.  Current brand on my top list is Samsung.

Samsung, Sony, LG, Sharp...you can't really go wrong with any of those.

Everything you want to know about AV shit for your house -- go here: http://www.avsforum.com/
Thats where I do all my homework. I have owned 1 DLP and 2 LCD tvs, all Samsung.  If you are looking for something nice though, don't stop at just the brand.  Just like cars, the major TV manufacturers have "lines".

My main TV is a Samsung LN52A650 that I think is pretty great. It has 120Hz (Auto Motion Plus) Which is BAD ASS.

I ordered a new 42" for my living room, which is not huge, so I think the tv will be a good size.. hope it was a good pick: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039RV0AU/ref=oss_product

it came down to money, I went with a real good LCD instead of getting a low end LED or a mid range LED and spending $$$ out the ass for it.  So I got a 40" (which is great from my 32, not to small and not over powering the room) Samsung.  So far I am really enjoying it.  *duckride*

Woa, you couldn't have picked a better brand for a tv. My brother in law purchased a samsung when they moved into their new place and the picture quality on it is absolutely amazing. Watching HD movies or even better, bluray is just incredible. My friend has a LG plasma before and after a couple of months you had stewart from family guy imprinted on the screen.

As for the sound Natty, the current speakers on the tv don't work or are you just looking for something different ?

no they work, just sound tinny.. common problem I guess.. I dont want a full fledged surround system for that room, that is why I was thinking the Vizio sound bar and wireless subwoofer for under $300.  The picture on the tv is SUPER.. finally bought a Blu Ray player, and am watching the Pacific on  it... looks great.. as with anything, the sound is getting better with tweaking, but I want a little better..

Samsung is my fav, I have 2 LCDs. One in the bedroom is only 720p but its also only 32" (i think) and the only signal is verizon fios which is 1080i anyways. The main tv has a samsung bluray player so its 1080p with all the HDMI signals (bluray, xbox, set top box) running through an Onkyo SR608. I am only running 5.1 atm tho.

some things I learned.

By all your cables from tartan and save a shitload of money: http://www.tartancable.com/

They WILL haggle at HHgregg. (Ive not tried to haggle at best buy, but I got HHgregg to honor amazon price for my Onkyo AND had them throw in a free Onkyo/IpodiPhone Dock. ($100.00)
