Still no joy on the video card, dusted out both the fan and heat syncs thoroughly....didn't do any of the replacing of the bonding because I don't have it yet. Installed a second fan so that the front one sucks in the cool clean air and set the rear fan to blow out the hot air, and cleaned the cpu fan. Did find out that the older fan's ball barrings are getting worn down so I'll be getting a replacement. That leaves either a virus, motherboard problem, or monitor problem.

As long as the card is not acting up while your on your desktop then your card is still salvageable. Keep using it up tho and its gonna be a nice toasty chip. Maybe you can make urself a bookmark out of it. :P

Yep, turns out to be the card. Just for the hell of it, my father and I tried running the computer using my flat panel tv and it looked just like it did on my monitor, and then took the video card out and plugged into an onboard vga graphics slot and it looks nice and clean, no screwy graphical stuff.

The only problem now, obviously, is that I can't play WAR till I get a new card. So, may be about a week or so till I'm back on the game. It looks like I may need to buy a bigger power supply because I'm running at 380W and the lowest I've seen for the 9 series is 400W.

Well, maybe I'll send u a box and return package for that card. So don't toss it away. I can always see if I can repair it and then just hook up SLI style! :D

get a 500w and the best card with the most on board ram you can.  Nothing less than 500Mb of ram on that card.

Well, you running a 32bit?  how much ram you got in that box?

I'm running the 32bit XP with 3.41GB RAM and Pentium4 3.40GHz.

Any particular board you recommend? I've been reading the reviews for the 9800 GT and GTX and I've noticed a common element in practically all of them; a loud fan. Is it really that loud or are they exagerating, Sandman?

Ram would bet.  It can only see 4 which would mean you do have 4 gig in your computer...  correct?

How much ram you have on your current card?

Oops, read the next line in the System Properties General tab. I think it's 4GB RAM

The reason why he has 3.4GB's of ram is because his current windows build is 32bit. A 32bit platform is only meant to read initially 3GB's. When 3.x appears its because he has more in his system but due to its limitations it will only pick up the max that it can read at once. So he probably has 4GB in right now if not more..

You can enable PAE and add an extra 4 bits (32bit to 36bit) so that windows can then read the full 4GB.

The price really jumps when going from a 400W to 500W power supply and then the price of the card on top of that. I might have to back down from the 9800GTX and get the 9800GT.

The card that I'm replacing had 256MB RAM on it, and it's the last card to carry that amount, Woap.
